CEC statement creates ripple in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, February 4, 2009: Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami's statement on Chhattisgarh has created a ripple in the corridor of power in the state.

"The statement is a reflection of what is there in the mind of the entire Election Commission about Chhattisgarh," a senior official told ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com here.

Gopalaswami had reportedly stated in New Delhi on Wednesday last that conducting election in Jammu and Kashmir was the easiest among the six states that went to poll recently, where as Chhattisgarh proved to be the most difficult.

The Commission considered it most difficult when there were over one lakh armed security guards on poll duty in Chhattisgarh during assembly election, the officials said adding if that was the situation during assembly election one can very well imagine what would be the situation during Parliamentary poll, many commented.

Since the Commission was also not happy with the security arrangements, it had written letter to the state Government expressing its displeasure over the services of one of the IGs and one DIG and sought explanation from one SP.

Besides that the Commission also wanted action against the Director General of Police Vishwaranjan for his certain remarks in the media on the Assembly election and the Commission.

Looking into the development and the statement, one can expect more fire fighting in the coming days, the officials observed.
