NTPC pays highest ever dividend

Korba, October 9, 2008: NTPC has paid a total dividend of Rs 2885.92 crore for the financial year ended on March 31, 2008, which was amounting to 35 per cent of its paid up capital.

It was the highest ever dividend declared by the central PSU, which had power plants in Chhattisgarh and other states, a Company release said here.

The shareholders of the company approved a final dividend of eight per cent amounting to Rs 659.63 crore at the 32nd Annual General Meeting held recently.

Chairman cum Managing Director of the NTPC R S Sharma recently presented a cheque of Rs 590.37 crore to Union Minister for Power Sushil Kumar Shinde as the share of Government of India towards final dividend for the financial year 2007-2008.

NTPC had earlier paid an interim dividend of Rs 1992.50 crore in February 2008, with that the Company had made a total dividend payment of Rs 2582.87 crore to Government of India for the fiscal 2007-08 as against Rs. 2361.48 crore the previous year, it said.

This is the 15th consecutive year that NTPC has paid dividend, it added.
