Raipur, February 27, 2011: Chhattisgarh Chamber of Commerce and Industries today welcomed the budget proposal by Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh to remove the check gates in the state.

It was historic to do away with the barriers and the professional taxes by the Raman Government in its annual budget for 2011-12 presented yesterday, Chamber President Srichand Sundarani said in a statement here.

It was a great achievement of the Chhattisgarh Chamber, he said.

The Chamber believes that the removal of barriers would increase revenue and along with the transporters commonmen would also be benefitted out of that, Sundarani said.

Singh yesterday presented an Rs 30725.96 crore annual budget for the fiscal 2011-12 in the state assembly stating that the total revenue receipt for next fiscal was estimated at Rs 30386.22 crore or a deficit of Rs 339.74 crore.

Taking into account the deficit for the financial year 2010-11 of about Rs 612 crore the total budgetary deficit would reach Rs 951.74 crore, he had said.

The gross fiscal deficit has been estimated as Rs 3,819.79 crore, Singh added.

No new tax had been proposed in the budget and in certain cases it had been rationalised.

Highlighting the removal of check gates, the Chief Minister said for a barrier free trade and to end the inspector raj in the state, there was demand for removal of all commercial check gates from the state and it would be implemented initially for one year.
