Raipur, March 01, 2011: At least 116 people were killed in elephants menace since 2005 in Chhattisgarh, the state Assembly was informed today.
In the last five years since 2005-06 to 2009-10, at least 116 people have been killed by wild elephants, replying to a question of Dr Prem Sai Singh Tekam of Congress, Forest Minister Vikram Usendi said.
During that period the elephants had also caused 43306 cases of crop damage in the state, he said.
A total of 4837 cases of house damage and 79 other properties were damages by the elephants, the minister added.
