New Delhi, March 11, 2011: The Supreme Court today issued notices to the Government of Chhattisgarh on a petition by civil liberty activist Binayak Sen seeking stay on his life imprisonment and bail.
A bench of Justice H S Bedi and Justice C K Prasad has given Chhattisgarh Government four weeks time to file its response.
Challenging the February 10 rejection of bail plea order of Chhattisgarh High Court, the 61-year-old Sen has moved the apex court.
Sen has sought bail contending that the trial court has erred in convicting him as there was no substantial evidence against him.
Vice President of People's Union of Civil Liberties, Sen was convicted on December 24 by the sessions court Raipur for sedition and sentenced to life imprisonment along with Naxal ideologue Narayan Sanyal and Kolkata businessman Pijush Guha for having link with Maoists.
