Sambalpur, May 04, 2011: At least 26 passengers were injured past mid night today when an Express train hit a derailed goods train near Titlagarh junction of Balangir District in Odisha, neighbouring Chhattisgarh.

Some wagons of a coal laden goods train derailed near Sikri, about seven km from the Titlagarh railway station while going from Brajarajnagar to Simadri and obstructed the other track, East Coast Railway officials told ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com.

While passing through that track the Koraput-Rourkela Intercity Express hit some wagons, in which three of the Express train got damaged injuring at least 26 passengers, including four seriously, they said.

The incident had disrupted train traffic on both the up and down lines between Titlagarh Sambalpur sections, they said.

Several trains have been either diverted or cancelled due to the accident, which took place at about 12.35 AM today.

Railway officials said rescue and relief works are on full swing to restore normalcy.
