Raipur, October 30, 2008: In the power surplus Chhattisgarh state, at least 79 villages have been electrified through solar energy, officials said today.
These villages were identified by Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) as remote villages and their proposals were received by the Central Government under the Remote Village Electrification Programme of the Ministry of New And Renewable Energy, the sources said.
Proposals for installation of Wind Solar Hybrid Systems of 2.7 KW each in 139 tribal hostels in Jashpur and Sarguja Districts were also sanctioned in the State during the financial year 2007-08, they said.
Solar energy came as a gift for people living especially in places surrounded by forest from all sides or in Forest Villages.
State government sources also said villages in Achanakmar and Bar Nawapara forest areas have been using solar energy.
