Chhattisgarh to add 1500 MW in 2012

Raipur, November 18, 2011: Chhattisgarh government would start producing extra 1500 mega watt of power from next year, officials said today.

Two state government power plants are expected to complete their works by next year and would produce an extra 1500 MW, officials said here.

Currently the state government owned power plants are producing 1924 MW and by 2012 that would touch 3424 MW, they added.

At the time of formation of Chhattisgarh on November 1, 2000, the State Electricity Board was producing 1360 MW and in 2007, the Rs 2452 Crore, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Thermal Power Plant (Korba East) completed its works and added 500 MW.

Works are in full swing for Rs 6318 Crore, 1000 MW Thermal Power Plant at Madwa-Tendubhata of Janjgir-Champa District.

Besides that, works are in war footing for the 500 MW Korba West Thermal Power Project with an investment of Rs 3156 crore, they said.

After completion of both the Janjgir-Champa and Korba projects the state PSU would start producing 3424 MW of power, the officials said.
