Chhattisgarh to enact stringent law against cows trafficking

Raipur, November 19, 2011: After banning cow slaughter in Chhattisgarh, the BJP government in the state was working on bringing in a stringent law to check trafficking of cows.

To stop smuggling and illegal transportation of cows and related animals, the state would soon bring in a strong legislation, Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh said here today.

The legislation would be moved in the winter session of the state assembly, he said.

Under the proposed law, any one found involved in illegal transportation or trafficking of cows would be sentenced up to seven years rigorous jail term and Rs 50,000 as fine, he said.

The Chief Minister said this during a discussion with a delegation, led by VHP leader Ramesh Modi here.
