Cabinet approves Stringent Act against Cow Trafficking

Raipur, December 12, 2011: Chhattisgarh cabinet today approved a legislation with severe punishment for cow slaughter and trafficking of domesticated animal.

The cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh, today approved a proposal to amend the Chhattisgarh Krishak Pashu Parirakshan Adhiniyam-2004.

As per the proposed amendment, the quantum of punishment has been increased to seven years from the current three years and the fine amount has also been increased to Rs 50,000 from Rs 10,000.

As per the provisions of the said Act, all the animals used in agriculture works, whether cow or buffalo, bull or ox can never be slaughtered. Nor they can be transported to anywhere inside or outside the state for killing neither one can keep their meat.

The amendment would be tabled in the Winter session of the state assembly, official sources said.
