CM Raman discusses Maoist issue with Army Chief Gen V K Singh

Raipur, April 14, 2012: For the first time Indian Army Chief General Vijay Kumar Singh and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh today discussed in details the protracted Maoists problem of the country.

During his day-long tour of Chhattisgarh Gen Singh today met the Chief Minister here and discussed with him several issues, including the future plan of the Army in Chhattisgarh and the Maoist problem, which has been term as the main internal security threat to the country by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.

The Chief Minister briefed the Army Chief about the genesis of the Maoist movement in Chhattisgarh and especially in Bastar region and how the Security forces were trying to resolve the issue, officials said.

The morale of the forces here are very high and the state and the Central para military forces have been in a very coordinated way trying to combating the situation, Raman Singh said adding the state government was taking several steps for the socio-economic development of the violence-hit people.

While talking about the civic action programmes being conducted by the central para military forces, Gen Singh said such programmes are being carried out so that the villagers could come closer to the administration and take advantage of the welfare schemes of the government.

The Army Chief also urged the Chief Minister to participate in such type of civil action programmes of the forces.

Gen Singh also advised Chhattisgarh and other Maoist-hit state governments to guard their borders to have an effective control over the problem.

Gen Singh also called on the Governor Shekhar Dutt and briefed him about his visit and other issues, officials said.

Earlier the Army Chief visited Kondagaon and interacted with the army jawans, who are undergoing jungle warfare training in those areas.

He was accompanied by Central Army Commander Lieutenant General Anil Chait and GOC Madhya Bharat Area, Jabalpur, Lieutenant General R S Pradhan, the officials said.
