Tribal youth first beneficiary of Standing Committee

Raipur, May 11, 2012: A tribal youth of Raipur was the first beneficiary of the recommendation of the Standing Committee, which has been constituted to review the cases of people lodged in various jails of Chhattisgarh, as a part of the agreement had between the Maoists and the state government to secure the release of Sukma District Collector Alex V F Paul Menon V.

Raja Dhruv, a 22-year old of Kukri Talab Gudhiyari in Raipur has been released from the Raipur Central jail after Nirmala Buch led Standing Committee recommended his name, a government release said.

He was in the Raipur Central jail under section 34 (N) of the Excise Act, it added.

The Committee had recommended release of the under trial after reviewing the case and on May 9 last he was not only granted bail but also was released from the jail, it said.

The next date of hearing of his case has been fixed on May 14 by the local court, it added.

On April 30, last the interlocutors from the Maoists and the state government had inked an agreement with Principal Secretary Home N K Aswal as an witness to form the Standing Committee, led by former Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary Nirmala Buch as the Chairperson and Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police of Chhattisgarh as members to review the cases of people lodged in various jails of the state.

As per the announcement of the Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh of coming in to existence of the committee within ten minutes of the release of Menon by the Maoists, the Committee was notified on May 3, after the Maoists released Sukma District Collector at Chintalnar after taking him hostage for 13 days from April 21 from Majhipara.
