All Appointments in Pollution Control Board as per Law: Govt



Raipur, September 11, 2012: All the appointments for the Pollution Control Board of Chhattisgarh were carried out as per law, the state government today said.

"All the appointments for the state Environment Conservation Board have been made as per the rules and regulations of the Government of India," official sources said.

Reacting to a media report questioning the qualification of the Chairman and the Secretary of the Board, the sources said the State government had also made the appointments abiding by the directions of the Central Forest and Environment Ministry.

The matter had earlier been raised in the state assembly and not only the House but also the Raj Bhawan have also been provided complete details about the qualifications and other details of the people appointed to the Board, they said.

A state government release also said the current Chairman of the Board, N Baijendra Kumar is a 1985 batch IAS Officer with an academic qualification of M.Sc (Zoology) and M.Phil in Environmental Biology.

Being a senior IAS officer with having environment related qualification made him suitably eligible for holding the post of the Chairman of the State Pollution Control Board, it said.

Similarly, the Member Secretary of the Board should have the qualification relating to Pollution Control.

Current Member Secretary P V Narasingha Rao is Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Chemical Engineering with M.Tech in the same subject. He is also a 1987 batch Indian Forest Service officer, who has both academic and work experience in dealing with the environment conservation matter, it said.

Similarly, the Board has two private members namely Naresh Chandra Gupta and Kuleswar Chandrakar. When Gupta is B.Com, LLB, PGDBM, PMIR, Chandrakar has a B.Sc degree in Mathematics and MA in Economics, the release said.
