Raipur, September 17, 2012: Former Jashpur Collector and retired IAS Mankuram Sarthi was today convicted of rape charges by a local court and sentenced him to seven years of imprisonment.
The District and sessions judge Jashpur Pravat Kumar Shastry convicted Sarthi of raping a state government employee, who was also posted in the same district, when he was posted as the District Collector of Jashpur.
The victim had lodged a complaint on 2002 against her Collector under section 376, 341 and 506 IPC, which was prominently covered in the national and local media.
The court sentenced him seven years imprisonment under Section 376, one year under 341 and two years and Rs 10,000 under 506 of IPC, victim's family sources reportedly said.
