Bharat Bandh total

Raipur, September 20, 2012: Protesting the decisions of the UPA government at the Centre to increase diesel price, cap on subsidised domestic LPG and FDI in multi-brand retail, the NDA and Left parties sponsored general strike Bharat Bandh today evoked a good response in Chhattisgarh.

Busy roads of the capital city and other urban areas wore a desert look today.

Buses were off the road and vehicular traffic was very thing in most parts of the state, since the ruling BJP had called for the bandh with trade and transport bodies supported the bandh call.

Besides NDA and Left parties, the Samajwadi Party, Biju Janata Dal and DMK have also supported the bandh call, because of which it had evoked a good response in the states, where these parties have an organisation.

However, Shiv Sena has decided not to join the bandh looking into the Ganapati celebration in Maharashtra.

West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee had also opposed the bandh since her arch rival Left parties have called for the bandh and stray incident of clashes had been reported from some parts of the Bengal between ruling TMC and opposition Left.

Although she had strongly opposed the Bandh but at the same tone she opposed the UPA government, in which her TMC was a partner, for the FDI in retail sector, hike in diesel price and cap in subsidised LPG.
