Raipur, September 20, 2012: Chhattisgarh Government today approved a proposal to take its people for pilgrimage to various places of the country.
A formal agreement would be signed shortly between the State Tourism Department and IRCTC for organizing such pilgrimage, an official release said here.
In the initial stage 20,000 people would be taken to various places on pilgrimage, it said adding the Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh has given on principle approval of the proposal.
The Social Welfare Department has been made the nodal agency and the Chief Minister has asked the officials to put the proposal before the Cabinet for approval.
Only people above the age group of 60 and living below poverty line would be considered as beneficiary of the scheme, officials said.
On lottery system the names would be decided, they said adding in the initial stage about 20,000 people would be taken to various holy places of the country by road or train.
