Chhattisgarh approves first ever Agriculture Policy

Raipur, September 24, 2012: Chhattisgarh government today approved its first ever Agriculture policy aimed at converting it in to a profitable business.

The Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh, has approved the first ever Agriculture Policy of the state, Agriculture Minister Chandrasekhar Sahu told reporters here.

Terming this an historical step, the Minister said through the policy over all interest of the farmers would be taken care of.

The policy also emphasized on increasing productivity and making farming a profitable business, he said.

The policy also underlined the importance of water and micro-irrigation, transferring technology from laboratory to the field, protecting and improving the condition of soil, and timely disbursement of agriculture loans among others.

Meanwhile, in another decision, the cabinet increased the price of sugar cane by Rs 35 per quintal. The state government hiked the amount in the name of bonus to the sugar cane growers.

Now the farmers would get Rs 200 per quintal of sugar cane, Sahu said.

The decision would specially benefit the sugar cane growers in and around the Sugar factory of Ramhepur in Kawardha district, also of Kerta in Surajpur district and Karkabhat of Balod district.
