Kawardha/Raipur, January 27, 2012: Amid speculation over the success of centrally sponsored Cash transfer scheme, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh today clarified that the highly subsidized rice scheme for the poors would not be winded up in the state.
"The cheaper rice scheme will never be close down," Singh told a public meeting at Kawardha.
Chhattisgarh was the first state in the country to have Food Security Bill passed in its state assembly to assure the poor of cheaper foodgrain, he said.
With this the public distribution system of the state would become more efficient and stronger, the Chief Minister said.
About 42 lakh poor families are being benefitted from the scheme as they are getting rice at Re 1 and Rs 2 per kg, he said.
