Raipur, May 02, 2013: Census-2013 revealed Chhattisgarh population has touched a new height of over 2.55 crore.
"As per the final data of the Census, the population of Chhattisgarh has reached 2,55,45,198 as on March 01, 2011 at 00.00 hours," Census Director Chhattisgarh Renu G Pillay told a press conference here.
Releasing the data, Pillay said against the total population of the country of 121,05,69,573 Chhattisgarh has a population of 2,55,45,198, which is 2.11 per cent of the total population.
Out of the total population of 2,55,45,198, the number of males are 1,28,32,895 and females are 1,27,12,303.
In the year 2001 the population of Chhattisgarh was 2,08,33,803 and in the last one decade it had added 47,11,395.
During the period 2001-2011, Bijapur had registered the lowest growth of 8.78 per cent where as Kawardha had registered a population increase of 40.7 per cent.
The literacy rate of Chhattisgarh has increased to 70.26 per cent against the national average of 72.99 per cent, and obtained 28th position in the country in this field.
Of the total literate population 80.27 per cent male are literate and 60.24 per cent female are literate.
The literacy rate in 2001 was 64.66 per cent.
The sex ratio of Chhattisgarh is 991, which was 989 in 2001 Census. The national ratio of male female is 943 in 2011 census.
Districts like Bastar, Dantewada, Kanker, Mahasamund, Rajnandgaon, Dhamtari and Jashpur has a female population of over 1000 and the highest is 1023 female in Bastar district against 1000 male and the lowest is 968 in Korea district.
The state has a Scheduled Caste population of 32,74,269, which is 12.82 per cent, which was 11.61 per cent during 2001 Census.
Similarly the state has a Scheduled Tribe population of 78,22,902, which is 30.62 per cent of the total population. This figure was 66,16,596 in 2001 or 31.76 per cent of the total population.
Chhattisgarh has a population density of 189 persons per square kilometre against the national figure of 382. The state density was 154 during 2001 census. The highest density is registered in Janjgir-Champa district of 420 persons where as Narayanpur and Bijapur have the lowest 30 persons according to 2011 Census.
