Bilaspur, November 11, 2014: Administration in Chhattisgarh today suspended three doctors after eight women died and at least 64 are hospitalized of a sterilization operation in Bilaspur district.
Bilaspur Chief District Medical officer, programme officer and the doctor (Dr Tiwari), who allegedly conducted sterilization operations have been placed under suspension, officials said.
Eight women have died so far after Saturday sterilization camp in Sakri village, officials said.
After visiting the villages and hospitals, Bilaspur Commissioner Sonmani Borah said, government sponsored sterilization camp was organized on Saturday for Sakri and Pendari villages at Sakri of Bilaspur district.
"Reports of drop in pulses, vomiting and other ailments have started pouring in from yesterday among the women, who underwent surgery for family planning operation," he said.
"Since yesterday eight women have died and 64 are admitted in various hospitals of Bilaspur," Borah said.
