Raipur, November 16, 2014: Chhattisgarh government today issued instruction to all concern to seize Ciprofloxasin-500 medicine after ten women were killed and over 70 hospitalized after sterilization operations.
Principal Secretary Health Dr Alok Shukla has issued instruction to the Drug Controller and other concern to seize the stock of Ciprofloxasin-500 stock.
After the scores of death in sterilization camps, the state government has decided to seize the stock of Ciprofloxasin medicine, officials said.
Teams constituted by the Drug Controller would seize the stock from medicine shop and other premises to check further death, the sources said.
Earlier Dr Shukla has admitted "Rat poison or Zinc Phosphide was found in the Ciprofloxacin tablets given to the women, who underwent sterilization operation"
"We also received reports that about nine persons, who are not part of the sterilization operation and had taken the same medicine, manufactured locally, taken to ill with same symptoms," he said.
Dr Shukla also urged media to highlight the issue saying, "since the specific medicine is available in private, people needed to be informed about its substances to avoid any further casualty".
