PROs should take advantage of technology: CM Raman

Raipur, August 31, 2016: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh today called upon the officials of the Public Relations Departments to understand the importance of social media and also make stories highlighting the reactions of the people towards various government schemes and programmes.

"This is the era of technology and we must take advantage of that to reach out to the people and also to various media organizations," Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh said inaugurating a two-day workshop 'Samvad Setu' at Chhattisgarh Administrative Academy, Nimora.

Experts from Mumbai and Delhi will talk to all the 27 district public relations officers and state level officials, he said adding how to effectively engage in publicity of government schemes and other related topics would be touched upon by the resource persons, including senior journalists and officials.

What should be the role of district PROs in the changed situation would also be discussed in the workshop, the Chief Minister said.

The two-day event will also discuss the requirement of the electronic and print media besides the social media, he said adding Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also very active in social media so also himself.

What are the reactions of the people about various government welfare schemes and programmes are a very important segment and the government officials must know how to highlight that to inform the people of the state and outsides, he said.

Media should also be informed about setting up of a new medical college, hospital, or construction of new roads and bridges and other developmental works so that more and more people are informed about the government activities, Singh said adding how to do that effectively would be discussed at the workshop, ending tomorrow.

The workshop was organized after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP National President Amit Shah had last week asked all the Chief Ministers to focus on government sponsored schemes and their publicity.

Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Aman Kumar Singh also highlighted the requirement of the media and asked the PR department officials to timely put out information for speedy coverage of any event and said requirement of print and electronic media are different and that should be kept in mind while disseminating information.
