Winter session to re-assemble today

Raipur, January 02, 2023: Chhattisgarh Assembly, after a vacation for a month, will re-assemble today for the winter session, which is likely to be noisy.

The winter session was convened on December 1, 2022 for 2 days and ended on December 2, 2022 and as per the Business Advisory Committee decision the winter session was extended for five more days from January 2, 2023 and proceeded for vacation.

Now there will be sitting on January 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, 2023.

The House might take up the matter to elect the Deputy Speaker, the post laying vacant following death of Manoj Singh Mandavi.

A tribal might be picked up by the ruling Congress for the Deputy Speaker post and every possibility it would be unanimously elected.

The Bhupesh Baghel government is likely to bring in two legislations in the post vacation session.

Opposition BJP is also contemplating to bring in various motions against the government, although the ruling Congress has a brute majority in the house.

Congress has 71 members in the 90-member house, whereas main opposition BJP has 14, Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (Jogi) has 3 and BSP has 2 members.

The Reservation Bill passed on December 2, 2022 would likely to dominate the proceedings also.

Since the Reservation Amendment Bill, passed before the vacation, had not yet been approved by the Governor Anusuiya Uikey, the matter could be raised by both the ruling Congress and opposition parties, including BJP, Jogi Congress and BSP with their own political stands
