Oppn stalls house proceeding on inaugural day

Raipur, July 20, 2009: Main opposition Congress today stalled the proceeding of the Chhattisgarh Assembly over the Madanwada incident of July 12 in which 26 policemen, including Rajnandgaon SP V K Choubey were killed by Maoists.

After the obituary mention when the house reassembled Nand Kumar Patel of Congress raised the issue of stepped up naxal violence in the state. Before he could complete his sentence the entire Congress bench members raised from their seats and started waving pla cards demanding resignation of Raman Singh from the Chief Ministership and also raised in high pitch anti-government slogans.

However, Speaker Dharam Lal Kaushik took objection to that saying waving such thing was against the dignity of the parliamentary practice.

When he saw the Opposition was not listening to him he adjourned the house for five minutes.

When the house again reassembled the opposition continued with their slogan shouting despite appeal from the Speaker.

Intervening in the matter, Chief Minister Singh said he was ready for a discussion on the matter.

When the Speaker wanted to know the reaction of the Congress members, the Leader of Opposition Ravindra Choubey refused to participate in any discussion and his party members continued with slogans against the government and the Chief Minister.

Finally the Speaker adjourned the house for 15 minutes or the rest of the period of the Question Hour.

When the house reassembled and when the opposition refused to participate in any of the discussion and continued with their demand for resignation of Raman Singh Government finally the Speaker adjourned the house till tomorrow with out transacting scheduled business of the house.
