Raipur, December 7, 2009: Chhattisgarh would go for two days election on December 21 and 23 to elect its members for the urban local bodies, Chhattisgarh State Election Commissioner Shivraj Singh said.
Initially the Commission had scheduled for three phase election on December 21, 24 and 27 but various political parties and religious organizations raised objection to the dates.
They said December 23 would put the Christian community voters in difficulty to participate in the election process due to Christmas, where as December 27 would be difficult for Muslims as the next day was Mohrram.
As per the new dates, on December 21 a total of 14 Municipal Councils and 87 Urban Local Bodies (Nagar Panchayats) would go to poll where as in the second phase 9 Municipal Corporations, 12 Municipal Councils and 32 Nagar Panchayats would go for voting, election office sources said.
Counting in all places would take place on December 27, they said.
