Raman hoist Flag at Bastar

Jagdalpur, January 26, 2010: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh today hoisted the tri-colour at the divisional headquarters Jagdalpur of the hyper naxal infested Bastar region and said his Government was dedicated to the cause of the people.

After unfurling the National Flag, the Chief Minister addressing to the people amid elaborate security arrangement, said any state is known from the per capita income of its people and that had increased many fold due to several welfare measures adopted by his government in the last six years.

When the state was formed the per capita income of Chhattisgarh was about Rs 10,000 in the year 2000-2001, which had now increased to Rs 29,000 in the year 2008-2009, he said adding the Gross State Domestic Product has also increased by 18.61 per cent in the last one year, which was highest ever by any state.

Majorities of the people are dependent on agriculture and to improve their financial condition several steps had been taken, including providing them loan in three per cent rate of interest, he said adding about 35,000 farmers would now be benefited for the free electricity scheme of the state government.

The state government had not only helped the weaker section of the society in their education and training but also recruited lakhs of people as teachers and in police department, he said.

The Chief Minister paid rich tributes to the police and security forces personnel and local people, who were killed in the naxal violence, and said all sections of the society should come forward in combating naxalism in the state.

The State government was taking every step to eradicate naxal menace, but there was every need of support and cooperation of the people to increase the morale of the effected people and the security forces, he said.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister also honoured the freedom fighters and people from various walks of life for their outstanding contribution to the society.
