Poll for Zilla Panchayat Chairpersons on Feb 21

Raipur, February 7, 2010: Elections of the Chairpersons and Vice Chairpersons of the Zilla Panchayats of Chhattisgarh on February 21, officials said.

Elections for the three-tier Panchayat Polls have been completed in the state and the Chhattisgarh Election Commission is now geared up for the election to elect their head and deputy head in all the districts of the state, officials said.

The State Election Commissioner had issued the schedule for that. On February 11 notification would be issued and on 21 of the month the election would be held to elect the chief and deputy chief of the Zilla Panchayats, they said.

All the District Collectors have also been asked to organize first meeting of the elected people's representatives on February 28 and on that day they would take over charges of their new offices under the three-tier Panchayat Raj System, as the tenure of the previous body was started on March 1, 2005, they said.
