CM, Ministers, IAS disclose property: Digvijay

Raipur, February 20, 2010: AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh today accused the BJP Governments in Bhopal and Raipur of having failed to control corruption and also demanded the Chief Ministers, Ministers and IAS of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh to disclose their property.

What the Chief Ministers of both the states and their Economic Offence Wings were doing when crore rupees are recovered from the residences of IAS officers, asked Singh in a press conference here.

He also demanded the Chief Ministers, Ministers and the IAS of both the states to declare their property of 2003 and 2010.

The former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister also dismissed the strategy of Chhattisgarh to tackle left wing extremists in the state saying naxalism cannot be handled through Army and police.

Rather the issue of education, poverty, employment, health and other matters of the people living in the forests and interior areas should be addressed, he said.

However, in the same breath he said, any one breaking the law should not be spared.

The Maoists should also learn that violence cannot unseat any one, and the naxalites should also take a leaf from Prachand, who became the Prime Minister of Nepal only after taking shelter of Democracy, Singh said.

He also termed the BJP a number two team of Congress saying, he was happy that new BJP national President Nitin Gadkari went to the house of a scheduled caste person and also started talking about the Muslims.

To a question, the senior Congress leader justified the increase in prices of essential commodities saying the income of the people and farmers have also increased, hence there was nothing unusual about the inflation.

About the ten per cent increase in prices of urea, he said there had been an increase in the prices of crude oil, because of which the price of the fertilizer was increased.
