Raipur, April 22, 2010: Chhattisgarh has created a record by proving safe drinking water to over 32,700 schools of in the state.
Through hand pumps the Public Health Engineering Department was providing safe drinking water to 32,796 schools of the state, officials said today.
In addition to the safe drinking water the state government was also taking steps to provide uninterrupted water supply to the lavatory in those schools, they said.
Water to the urinals is provided in 3,169 schools through over head tanks and pipes and works are in progress in another 300 schools, they added.
In the current financial year the PHE Department was planning to provide water through tanks and pipes in about 8000 schools for which a budgetary provision of Rs 10 crore has been made, the officials said.
