High Alert in Chhattisgarh after fresh naxal violence

Viswaranjan

Raipur, May 9, 2010: All the police forces in Chhattisgarh have been put on high alert today after intelligence inputs suggested more attacks by Maoists after they killed eight CRPF personnel in a land mine blast in Bijapur district.

"All the policemen and police stations have been put on high alert as the Maoists might carry out more such attacks in Chhattisgarh," State Director General of Police Vishwa Ranjan told ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com today.

Since the Left wing extremists have changed their strategy from guerrilla warfare to tactical mobile warfare the security forces have been asked to be on high alert, the DGP said.

The intelligence agencies have also warned the state and the central forces to remain alert as the Maoists are planning more attack on the forces and government installations, police sources said.

Some of the well trained members of the armed guerrillas have been spotted in some of the Bastar regions because of which the forces have been alerted of the situation, the sources said.

After killing 76 security personnel on April 6 at Tadmetla area of Dantewada District, the Maoists yesterday triggered a powerful land mine blast on the National highway-16 near Pedakodepal.

In total eight security personnel of the CRPF, travelling in a bullet proof vehicle, were killed in that land mine blast, said Additional Director General (Anti-Naxal Operation) Ramniwas.

The improvised explosive devise of the Maoists was so powerful that the blast had left an eight feet deep crater on the National Highway 16, the road that connects Chhattisgarh with neighbouring Andhra Pradesh state, police said.

The incident took place about nine km from the district headquarters Bijapur when the security personnel were returning from the CRPF base camps in Basaguda and Awapalli, the sources said.
