2 Powerful live Landmines recover

Dantewada, May 10, 2010: Chhattisgarh police today recovered two powerful landmines in a National Highway in Dantewada district, only two days after a powerful IED blast in another National Highway killed eight CRPF personnel in Bijapur district.

"Two huge live land mines were recovered by police from the National Highway-221 that connects Jagdalpur with Hyderabad" Dantewada police sources told ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com.

After the Saturday land mine blast on the National Highway-16 in the neighbouring Bijapur, police had inputs that more such land mines might have been planted on other busy national highways, which were used by both the civilians and security personnel, they said.

During one such search operation, when a police party reached Manikonta under Errabore Police station, about 140 km from the district headquarters Dantewada, Maoists opened indiscriminate fire on the police party, the sources said.

In retaliation police fired about 40 rounds and during subsequent search the security forces recovered two huge live land mines of 25 kg and 50 kg respectively, besides 75 metre wire and other explosive materials, they said.

The landmines, meant to target police forces, were neutralized with the help of bomb disposal squad, the sources said.

On Saturday last when eight Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were travelling in a bullet proof vehicle, the Maoists triggered a powerful land mine blast near Pedakodepal in Bijapur district.

The Saturday blast was carried out on the National Highway, that connects Chhattisgarh with Andhra Pradesh and after that incident there was a very thin traffic on that road, police said.
