New Capital extension of current Raipur: Raman

Raipur, July 17, 2010: Chhattisgarh Governor Shekhar Dutt today laid the foundation stone for an ambitious Rs 156 crore water supply scheme for the new capital and said the future generation would get the Naya Raipur as a rich heritage.

The Rs 156.23 Crore water supply scheme from River Mahanadi to Naya Raipur are being implemented keeping in mind the future need of the new capital area, the Governor said.

Also referring to the plantation of one lakh tree on Naya Raipur, he said the new capital would be a green capital of the state.

He also praised the Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh for his vision and dedication in implementation of the new capital project.

Chief minister Dr Raman Singh, presiding over the function, said spread over 8,013 hectare the new capital would be an extension of the old Raipur city.

Since the population of the current capital city was constantly increasing, there was a need for expansion of the city and keeping that in mind the Naya Raipur was being constructed, the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister also announced to start a Jungle Safari near the new capital project, to show case the bio diversity of the state and a water spot of about 140 acre, in the style of Kankaria of Ahmedabad in Gujarat.

Principal Secretary Housing and Urban and Vice Chairman of the Naya Raipur Development Authority N Baijendra Kumar thanked the guests and audience for their participation of the one lakh plantation of tree and for other programmes.
