Chhattisgarh poll on Nov 14 and 20

New Delhi, October 14, 2008: The Election Commission today announced the poll schedule for Chhattisgarh and due to naxal violence the state would go for two days poll on November 14 and 20 next.

The counting would be held for 90 seats, including 10 SC and 29 ST segments, on December 8, Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami told reporters here.

In the first phase 39 assembly segments would go to poll on November 14 where as on the second phase 51 seats would go for poll on November 20, the Commission said.

The date of notification for the first phase would be held on October 20 and the last date of filing nominations would be October 27.

Scrutiny would be on October 29 and last date of withdrawal of nomination would be on October 31 and the election would be held on November 14, the Commission said.

Similarly for the second phase of polls, notification would be issued on October 27, and the last date of filing of nomination is November 3.

The scrutiny would be held for the second phase of poll on November 4 and last date of withdrawal is November 6 and the election would takes place on November 20.

The entire process of election would have to be completed by December 13, 2008, it said.

For 230-member Madhya Pradesh house elections would be held on November 25, for 40 seats assembly of Mizoram and 70 seats of National Capital Territory Delhi polls is scheduled on November 29 where as for 200-member Rajasthan house election would be held on December 4.

The Commission has prepared the schedule for holding General Elections to the Assemblies after taking into consideration all relevant aspects, like the climatic conditions, academic schedules, festivals, prevailing law and order situation in the States, availability of Central Police Forces, time needed for movement and proper deployment of forces, and assessment of other ground realities, it said.

The schedule is also in keeping with the Commissionís consistent policy to club different state elections together even when their term ends on different dates separated by a few months, the Commission said.
