Lack of Nirmal Police station claims 2 lives

Raipur, September 12, 2010: Chhattisgarh might have been doing well in sanitation and earned a couple of awards, but lack of toilet facilities in one of its Police station claimed the life of two policemen today.

"Armed Maoists shot dead two policemen at about 100 metre from their police station Bhejji under Dantewada district, when they were going for attending nature's call," Spokesman of Chhattisgarh Police Rejesh Mishra told ChhatisgarhTopNews.com here.

The Maoists attacked the unarmed policemen in the morning hour today when they were going for toilet on the open field close to their police station, Mishra said.

The rebels had fled from the scene by the time the forces from the police station reached the spot after hearing the gun shot sounds, he said.

In several police stations and security camps, put up for state or central security forces to combat the naxalism lacked proper toilets and several security personnel from Sarguja, Rajnandgaon and Dantewada districts had lost their lives in the last couple of years while going for toilet in open field.

Amid call by the Maoists of shut down strike in several states, including Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand, against alleged police action on rebels, forces and Maoists were also locked in a fierce gun battle in the forest of Durg Kondal in Kanker district today, police said.

There was no report of any casualty or injured from the police side and forces are in the jungle to confirm any casualty from the Maoists side, police added.
