Passenger Train derails in Chhattisgarh

Dantewada, September 23, 2010: Amid celebration of the week-long foundation day by the Maoists, a passenger train was derailed today in the violence hit Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh.

The Kirandul-Visakhapatnam passenger train was derailed about 6.30 AM today near Bhansi Railway Station, but no one was injured in that incident, officials said.

Two of the coaches of the passenger train and the engine jumped the track, they said.

On inspection it was found that the track was damaged and most likely Maoists could have done that before the train passed through that, the officials claimed.

Maoists had also blown up the Bhansi railway station some year back.

Previously the Railway authorities had been suspending the train services whenever the Maoists were observing any of their important days but recently they had issued a statement claiming they would not damage the railway properties during those occasions because of which the train services during the foundation day was not suspended, railway officials argued.

Deadly Communist Party of India (Maoists-Leninist People's War) and the Maoists Communist Centre of India (MCCI) merged on September 21, 2004 to form the Communist Party of India (Maoists) with Ganapathy as its head and the Maoists are currently observing a week-long celebration of the foundation day with stepped up violence.
