First gun battle in Mahasamund, 8 Maoists killed



Raipur, October 09, 2010: Mahasamund district of Chhattisgarh today witnessed the first ever Maoists related violence and in three separate gun battles in the district today at least eight naxalites were killed and several weapons have been seized.

"Eight bodies of the Maoists have been recovered from the jungle of Mahasamund and seven weapons seized from them after three separate gun battles," Spokesman of the Chhattisgarh Police Rajesh Mishra told ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com.

After three separate encounters the police has seized one Self Loaded Rifle, three .303

Rifles and an equal number of 12 bore guns, he said.

The encounter was on in Padkipali, Chhotelora and Rishidadar jungles of Sankra police station in Mahasamund district, all places about 110 km from the state capital Raipur, they said.

In that incident two policemen have been injured and after primary treatment at Sankra, they are being brought to Raipur for further treatment, top police officials said.

Chhattisgarh police had been attacked from many sides for its inaction towards the increased movement of Maoists in Mahasamund and Raipur districts and at least for some time now today's police action would be able to silent those voices.
