Raipur, July 17, 2024: At least 12 cadres from the banned outfit CPI (Maoists) were today shot dead by an elite force in Maharashtra.
Bodies of 12 Maoists have been recovered so far from the Wandoli village area after a six-hour long gun battle, Gadchiroli District Superintendent of Police Nilotpal told ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com.
In the gun battle, one Sub Inspector from the elite C-60 force and a police personnel were injured, who were airlifted to Nagpur city for further treatment, he said.
The incident took place in Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border of Wandoli village area under Gadchiroli district.
On specific and credible information that about 15 Maoists were camping in the area seven parties from the elite Commando force C-60 and Gadchiroli police raided the area near the Wandoli village, Nilotpal said.
“A heavy exchange of fire started in the afternoon that continued till late evening for over six hours,” the SP said.
After the firing stopped, the forces searched the area and recovered bodies of 12 Maoist, he said.
Besides that, seven automatic weapons, including three AK-47, two INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) Rifles, one Carbine and one Self Loading Rifle (SLR) were recovered from the gun battle site, Nilotpal added.
One of the bodies have been identified as a local Guerrilla commander of Tipagad, the officer said.
Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds the Home Department with him, has announced a reward of Rs 51 lakh as reward to the personnel of C-60 Commandos and Gadchiroli Police “for a major successful operation,” Nilotpal said.
C-60 commando force was raised by the Maharashtra state government to counter the Maoist violence in the state.
