     Korba, July 29, 2023: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel today laid the foundation stone for a new power plant in Korba district of the state.

     With the investment of Rs 12,915 crore a 1320 MW super critical power plant would be constructed in Korba district, for which the foundation stone was laid by the Chief Minister Baghel in a function in the presence of Speaker Dr Charandas Mahant and others.

     Chief Minister Baghel also announced that the new power plant would be named after former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

     With a cost of 9.78 crore per megawatt, the power plant would have units of 660 MW each.

     When the state was created on November 1, 2000, the state had a production capacity of 1360 MW, whereas currently government owned power plants have increased the capacity to 2978.7 MW.

     On August 25, 2022 Chhattisgarh government decided to have the power plant and today the foundation stone was laid by the Chief Minister, officials said adding the first unit of 660 MW would start producing power by 2029 and the second unit by 2030.

     The new power plant would be constructed in the old HTPS premises of 71 hectare, which is currently lying vacant.

     The project would require 28 MCM water and 6.5 MTPA coal per annum.
