New Delhi, January 23, 2024: Ahead of the Bihar Assembly election, the Government of India, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today awarded Bharat Ratna to former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur.
“The President (Droupadi Murmu) has been pleased to award Bharat Ratna to Shri Karpoori Thakur (posthumously),” a President’s Press Communique said today.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his happiness over the decision of Bharat Ratna given to “pioneer of social justice” Karpoori Thakur posthumously.
On the occasion of Karpoori Thakur’s birth centenary, this decision will make the countrymen proud, Modi said.
His unwavering commitment and visionary leadership for the upliftment of the backward and the deprived has left an indelible mark on the socio-political scenario of India, the Prime Minister said.
