Raipur, April 28, 2024: Several parts of India has been reeling under a severe heat wave condition with mercury touching 45 degree, disrupting normal life in many states and even affecting election campaigning also.
Industrial town of Angul in Odisha recorded a blistering 44.7 degrees Celsius, while state capital Bhubaneswar sweltered at 44.6 degrees Celsius, marking the highest temperature this summer, weather officials said.
At least in 14 places the temperature was above 43 degree in Odisha, Meteorological Department sources said.
Meanwhile, the weathermen have forecasted a prolonged heat wave in East and South Peninsular India although rainfall likely over Western Himalayan Region till April 30.
For about a week the East and South Peninsular India, which are reeling under severe heat wave conditions, are not likely to get any relief, sources said.
Heat wave to severe heat wave conditions are likely to prevail in parts of Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal and isolated pockets of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, India Meteorological Department sources said, .
The heat wave conditions will continue in certain pockets across Bihar, Jharkhand, Rayalaseema, Interior Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu over the coming days. Uttar Pradesh, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam in Puducherry are also expected to encounter severe heat waves from till May 1.
