Raipur, July 31, 2024: Ramen Deka today took oath as Governor of Chhattisgarh. He replaced Biswa Bhusan Harichandan.
Chhattisgarh High Court Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha this morning administered oath of office to Ramen Deka in a function at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan here.
Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, Assembly Speaker Dr Raman Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao, former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister P Dayanand and a host of dignitaries attended the function.
Including wife Ranee Dekakakoty, family members of the new Governor had also witnessed the oath ceremony.
Born on March 1, 1954 in Sualkuchi, Deka was elected to Lok Sabha twice on a BJP ticket.
A former National Secretary of BJP, Deka was also made the BJP state President in 2014.
Deka had served the 15th Lok Sabha representing the Mangaldoi constituency in 2009.
He again became MP in 2014 for the 16th Lok Sabha from the same Mangaldoi seat, sources said.
Outgoing Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan was accorded a warm send off yesterday after a successful tenure. He went to Bhubaneswar, where his son Prithwiraj Harichandan is a Minister in the BJP Government led by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
Ramen Deka took oath today as the 10th Governor of Chhattisgarh.
Immediately after the new state was created Dinesh Nandan Sahay was made the first Governor of Chhattisgarh. He was in Chhattisgarh Raj Bhavan from November 1, 2000 to June 1, 2003.
Sahay was replaced by Lt Gen K M Seth. His tenure was from June 2, 2003 to January 24, 2007.
ESL Narasimhan is the 3rd Governor of Chhattisgarh, who was in office from January 25, 2007 to January 23, 2010.
Shekhar Dutt replaced Narasimhan as the 4th Governor of the state. Dutt was in office from January 23, 2010 to July 01, 2014.
Ram Naresh Yadav is the 5th Governor of Chhattisgarh, who had a short tenure of July 02, 2014 to July 24, 2014.
Balramji Dass Tandon took over charges as 6th Governor on July 25, 2014 and was in office till August 14, 2018.
Anandiben Patel is the 7th Governor of Chhattisgarh, who was in office from August 15, 2018 to July 28, 2019.
As the 8th Governor Anusuiya Uikey took charge on July 29, 2019 and was in office till February 23, 2023.
Biswa Bhusan Harichandan was the 9th Governor from February 23, 2023 till July 30, 2024.
And as the 10th Governor of Chhattisgarh Ramen Deka took oath today on July 31, 2024 at 10.15 AM.
