Raipur, August 07, 2024: The Chhattisgarh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai today approved a proposal to create a new Tiger Reserve in the state.
“The Cabinet today approved creation of Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingala Tiger Reserve in the state,” official sources told ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com.
State Wild Life board had proposed to merge Guru Ghasidas National Park and Tamor Pingala Sanctuary and that had the approval of the National Tiger Conservation Authority of the Central Forest and Environment Ministry.
On the basis of that proposal the Cabinet approved the merger of Guru Ghasidas National Park and Tamor Pingala Sanctuary to create Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingala Tiger Reserve, official sources said.
The new Tiger Reserve would have a territory of 2829.387 square kilometre, spread across Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur, Korea, Surajpur and Balrampur districts of Chhattisgarh.
Forest and Environment Department has been assigned by the Cabinet to take further steps in that direction, the sources said.
The new Tiger Reserve will not only promote eco-tourism, but also create more employment opportunities and get more central funds from the Central government for the development of the near by villages.
