New Delhi, December 27, 2024: Government of India has announced seven days of state mourning throughout India from December 26 on death of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.

The Government of India has announced with profound sorrow the death of Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India on 26.12.2024 at AIIMS hospital, New Delhi, Union Home Ministry has said.
“As a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, it has been decided that seven days of state mourning will be observed throughout India from 26.12.2024 to 01.01.2025 both days inclusive,” the Ministry said.

During this period the National flag will be flown at half-mast throughout India where it is regularly flown and there will be no official entertainment during the period of state mourning, it added.
It has also been decided that the state funeral will be accorded to late Dr. Manmohan Singh, the Central Government said.
The National flag shall also fly half-mast on the day of funeral in all Indian Missions/High Commissions of India abroad, it added.
92 years old Dr Singh’s death was announced yesterday night by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, where he was admitted in the Emergency ward in a critical condition.
An AIIMS bulletin said “he was treated for age related medical conditions and had sudden loss of consciousness at home” on December 26.

“Resuscitative measures were started immediately at home. He was brought to medical emergency at AIIMS Delhi at 8.06 pm. Despite all efforts, he could not be revived and was declared dead at 9.51 pm,” said the bulletin.
Singh, who was prime minister for two terms in the Congress-led UPA government from 2004 to 2014, had been in poor health for the last few months.
He is survived by wife Gursharan Kaur and three daughters.
