Raipur, January 04, 2025: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai today strongly condemned the brutal murder of Bijapur journalist Mukesh Chandrakar and said so far three accused have been arrested in this case and their illegal constructions have also been demolished.

Describing journalism as the fourth pillar of democracy, Chief Minister Sai said “it is the responsibility of the government to ensure the freedom and safety of journalists.”
Declaring that the state government will not spare anyone, who are involved in the murder case, Sai considering the seriousness of the matter has constituted an 11-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Additional Superintendent of Police IPS Mayank Gurjar.

Apart from SIT, the forensic team is also investigating the incident on the basis of scientific and technical evidence.
Bijapur based journalist Mukesh Chandrakar was murdered and his body was dumped in a septic tank, which was recovered yesterday by the police.
Mukesh Chandrakar, who was reporting for NDTV and had worked with News18, was missing from January 1, 2025 night and his brother Yukesh Chandrakar had filed a missing report also with the Bijapur police.
The body of Mukesh Chandrakar was found in the premises of a contractor Suresh Chandrakar in Chattanpara area of Bijapur district headquarters, Bijapur police has said.
His last location was traced to Chattanpara and on seeing fresh cemented works, on suspicion police removed that to find the body of Chandrakar inside the septic tank.
Chief Minister Sai said that instructions have been given to give the harshest punishment to the accused so that such incidents do not recur.
“Our government will take a tough stand against the criminals and ensure the safety of journalists,” he said.
Sai said that maintaining law and order in the state is the top priority of the government.
Meanwhile Chhattisgarh Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap today went to the home of Mukesh Chandrakar and paid floral tributes to Mukesh Chandrakar.
Minister Kashyap also met the family members of Mukesh Chandrakar and assured them of all assistance.
“No one will be spared in this incident and stern action will be taken,” Kashyap told the family.
