Ambikapur, September 4, 2008: After a long gap the Maoists have carried out an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in north of Chhattisgarh killing four security forces and injured six in Balrampur district of Chhattisgarh, who were engaged in anti-naxal operations, CRPF sources said.
“Through a powerful IED blast, the Maoists today killed three CRPF personnel and a jawan from the district force and injured six in Samri Police Station area’s Chunchuna village in Balrampur district,” CRPF sources said.
The blast took place when the policemen were travelling in a vehicle, the sources said adding CRPF Commandant and others have rushed to the spot.
Police Headquarters has attached much importance to this incident as after a long gap the Maoists had carried out any land mines blast in Sarguja region.
The Maoists had earlier on August 29 also blew off a security vehicle in IED explosion killing all its occupants six CRPF men, one Inspector, four jawans and a driver of the CRPF near Chheribeda, about 350 km from the state capital in Narayanpur district in south of Chhattisgarh, CRPF sources said.
The IED blast in Narayanpur district was so powerful that on the spot five personnel were killed where as another killed on way to hospital when a convoy of three vehicles was proceeding with the CRPF Commandant Satpal Rawat from Kondagaon to Manjemata to inaugurate a school for the local villagers, the sources said.
