Raipur, April 08, 2024: Former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh and Rajnandgaon Congress Lok Sabha candidate Bhupesh Baghel today came down heavily on the BJP and the Modi government after the Supreme Court order on the alleged liquor scam.
“The judgment of the Supreme Court proved today that the ED was invoking money laundering act in all cases on instruction of the BJP to defame the oppositions,” said Baghel through a post in social platform X.
This has proved the “political misutilisation” of the agency and the Modi government was also exposed, he said.
Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court had quashed the money laundering case of the alleged Rs 2,000 crore liquor scam in Chhattisgarh, saying there were no proceeds of crime.
The bench quashed the complaint after noting that since no ex-facie scheduled offence (main offence) existed against them, no offence under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) was made out.
Giving his reaction, the former Congress Chief Minister said, just before the 2023 Assembly election the ED had registered the case of alleged liquor scam and was used by the BJP as a political weapon.
During the entire campaign the BJP had tried to defame the then Congress government, he said.
Baghel also appealed to the ED to show its dedication towards the Constitution.
