Raipur, December 09, 2024: Congress led Opposition parties are reportedly contemplating to bring in a no confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar.
The opposition has been accusing Vice President Dhankhar of adopting biased attitude toward them, according to various reports.
Opposition members are considering submitting a notice ‘very soon’ for moving a resolution to remove the vice president from his office, the reports said.
For some times now the opposition was trying to collect the required number of signatures to move the resolution against Dhankhar ‘at an appropriate time’.
Congress had taken the lead on the issue and the TMC and the Samajwadi Party, besides other INDIA bloc parties, were supportive of the move, the reports said.
In August this year also opposition members were said to be contemplating moving a resolution for the removal, but that idea was dropped, it said.
The opposition knew they do not have the required numbers to remove the Vice President from his office, but sources said, they wanted to send a message accusing him of favouring the ruling BJP.
According to Article 67(b) of the Constitution, “Vice-President may be removed from his office by a resolution of the Council of States (Rajya Sabha) passed by a majority of all the then members of the Council and agreed to by the House of the People; but no resolution for the purpose of this clause shall be moved unless at least fourteen days’ notice has been given of the intention to move the resolution.”
