Raipur, May 10, 2024: At least 12 cadre from the Maoists were shot dead in a fierce gun battle in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh today, whereas two of the security personnel sustained injuries, a top police officer said.
“Bodies of 12 Maoists have been recovered during the search operation,” a top police officer told ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com here.
It was a fierce encounter, which started in the morning and continued till evening, the police officer said.
On a tip off security forces had cordoned off a forestry Pidiya area in Gangalur police station of Bijapur district.
“The forces had inputs of a gathering of top Maoists cadre in the Pidiya forest and raided the area,” the officer said.
In the exchange of fire 12 Maoists were killed, and their bodies have also been recovered.
During the operation two of the forces came in contact with the improvised explosive devices (IED) planted by the Maoists and sustained injures, the officer said adding both the personnel are out of danger.
“Since the exchange of fire is continuing till evening the bodies have not yet been identified,” police said.
Search operation is also continuing in the area, the top police officer added.
