Raipur, September 9, 2008: Former Chief Secretary Shivraj Singh today succeeded in getting his man Bheesham Lal Thakur as the new Chairman of the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission.
Thakur, a state service officer who got into IAS in 1995, is a post graduate in Physics. After Shivraj Singh became the Chief Secretary on January 31, 2007, the same day he handed over charges of mines of the mineral rich state to his trusted officer Thakur and ever since he was continuing in that post despite several controversies rocked that department.
After senior most IAS officer of the state Bijoy Kishore Sunder Ray refused to accept the post of Chairman of the state PSC after he was denied for the second time the post of Chief Secretary, there was a beeline but Shivraj Singh, the Advisor to the Chief Minister, got his man posted in the Commission, claimed sources.
Many people in Chhattisgarh may not have remembered that Thakur was also having the charge as the Coordinator, Rehabilitation, Development and Monitoring of Naxal Area since March 9, 2006.
His dedicated service and loyalty made him the Chairman of the state Public Service Commission, which had generated more controversies than clearing appointments.
Earlier on August 27, last the Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh had cleared the appointment of Chhattisgarh State Electricity Board Engineer from Korba Pradeep Kumar Deshpandey and professor of Government College Jagdalpur Itwari Ram Khunte as the member of the Chhattisgarh PSC.
