Raipur, April 17, 2023: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh today urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to include the recently passed State Reservation Amendment Bill in the 9th Schedule of the Constitution.
The state assembly had passed a billed to provide 76 per cent reservations to various sections of the society, writing a letter to the Prime Minister the Chief Minister said urging him to include the Reservation Amendment Bill in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution.
A Reservation bill of the Tamil Nadu state has been included in the Ninth Schedule. Similar decision may be taken on the Chhattisgarh bill and appropriate direction may be issued, Baghel urged.
In December 2022 the Reservation Amendment Bill was passed in the state Assembly with provision of 32 per cent reservation for Scheduled Tribe, Scheduled Caste of 13 per cent, Other Backward Castes or OBC has been given 27 per cent and four per cent reservation to the Economically Weaker Sections of the society.
The new reservation quota was decided as per the population of the individual sections of the society, he said.
Looking into the special conditions of the state, appropriate instruction may be issued to include this under the Ninth Schedule so as to give justice to the under privileged and supressed sections of the society, the Chief Minister said.
This Reservation Amendment Bill is currently under the consideration of the Governor.
